Sea Turtles in Northern Cyprus
Northern Cyprus is a crucial nesting area for endangered sea turtles, mainly Loggerhead (Caretta caretta) and Green turtles (Chelonia mydas). Beaches like Alagadi (Turtle) Beach provide protected nesting sites where volunteers and conservation groups monitor and safeguard nests. The region’s warm sand and relatively undisturbed coastline make it one of the Mediterranean’s most important habitats for turtle reproduction.
